Setting Email Programs to Send Plain Text

We have has some instances of email from specific addresses, primarily Yahoo addresses, that are consistently blocked by Prairienet's spam filter. Email is blocked is that is has enough characteristics in common with actual spam that the filter incorrectly identified as spam.

In such cases, it's worth trying to set the sender's mail program to send plain text only (no fonts, colors, background images, etc.).

This is by no means an exhaustive list, but here are some links to some instructions for using text-only mode in some of the more popular e-mail clients in use today:

  • Outlook 2003

  • Outlook Express (XP)

  • Thunderbird

  • OperaMail

  • If you use Eudora 7.x, click "Tools," "Options," and then scroll down to the "Display" settings box and uncheck the boxes next to "Automatically download HTML graphics," and "Display attached images inline."

If you continue to have problems, please email with the specifics.
